Economic survey is an important document released by the Government every year reflects the year that has gone by and  the year that will come.

Every year,in prelims few questions are asked from economic survey .However,this is such a huge document that students find difficult to read and spend too much time on it .

1.Read the first chapter of the Economic Survey -It is a brief summary of the  entire document.It will help you identify

• The main focus of this year's survey
• Important observations
• 

2.In Prelims ,UPSC tests the understanding of the basic economic indicators .Look out for these indicators-

Inflation
Food Inflation
Fiscal deficit
Current A/C deficit
Balance of Payments
Foreign reserves.
Trade balance
IIP

3.Look out for the following changes :
Fall/Rise in the particular economic indicator in that particular year
Cause for the change
                                     

4.Box items
The items in the box can carry important information for exam purposes.

5.New schemes
Identify the  new schemes and the following about it

• Which ministry is incharge of it
• What is the main objective of the scheme 

6.Ignore the graphs and charts .Most of the times ,there is too much information in the graphs and it is too less useful for the exams. Examples of graphs and charts that can be ignored -
